Data accurate through version 1.0.3.
How can you keep yourself from going crazy with all the dozens of names you'll be creating for your planets and solar systems? Here's a way to keep your sanity and turn the innocuous into an asset.
System Nomenclature
When you've been to twenty different systems in the same galaxy cluster, you're going to get confused. The game tells you if/when you discovered it, but it's much easier to alter the names in such a way that you can learn at a glance what's happening.
- Order - The easiest way to keep track of places you've been is to number them in the order they were found.
- Period
- Event - (optional) If there was a special reason I went there, I write that in (for instance, "Atlas1" for the first Atlas encounter).
- Period
- Name - A clever name or a shorter version of the generated name.
System Naming Example
Here is what such a system list would look like:
- 5.Atlas1.Brazit
- 4.Kriminir
- 3.Anamax
- 2.Opal
- 1.MeSystem
Planet Nomenclature
Similarly, remembering which planets are useful can be done quickly with a similar system:
- Name - A clever name or a shorter version of the generated name.
- Moon - If it's a moon, I name it such.
- Period
- Organism Code - Just flora (F), just fauna (A), neither (B). Omit if normal.
- Sentinel Code - If the sentinels are violent (X) or missing (M). Omit if normal.
- Bank - If it's a location that offers tons of gold or other unit-making opportunities, I end with a dollar sign.
You may also want to consider working in the word "water" for water worlds or "dry" for various climates. But that's a personal thing.
Depending on how you're playing your species relations, you may also want to add ".Gek", ".Vy", or some other indicator to remind you of where your friends/enemies are.
Planet Naming Example
Here is an example of how the planet names can help you remember:
- 5.Atlas1.Kor.Brazit
- Chrixwix.BX
- Purjoin Moon.$
- Lava Fjord
- Anamax.BX$
- Brazit
- Parpathet.B
